Crazy Day Yesterday

Yesterday I had so much going on.  In the morning I went to the Montpelier Rehab to shadow for occupational therapy assistant.  I am thinking of double majoring in OTA and paraprofessional education but I am still not sure.  Also I am trying to get into Rhodes College.  Anyhow,  so after I got that done, I went to NWSCC to talk to my advisor and the dean about OTA.  On the way to NWSCC, this hitchhiker tried stopping me by going out in the middle of the road and putting his hand up and trying to flag me.  I was not going to stop, especially after hearing kidnapping stories!  I was so scared so I just went around him but still, I never had that situation before and I thought I was going to hit the guy.  After I got done at NWSCC I went back home and made my dad his birthday cake and got his presents ready.  He turned 57 yesterday.  Then after we celebrated his birthday, I worked on a whole bunch of papers that I had to write which I absolutely dreaded!

fourth blog assignment

I picked the statement, "You don't know what you've got til its gone" (Joni Mitchell).
It always hurts me inside when loosing people who I love.  Sometimes I wish that people that you like and get to know super well would not move but that is not always the case in reality.  Two examples I came up with are:

When I was in fourth grade, one of  my best friends was moving down to flordia.  When I heard the news, I was very sad and did not know how life would be without her.  Throughout the years before she moved away, we did everything together.  So it did not hit me until I realized that she was not going to be beside me doing the regular thing we do together.  Even though we chat on facebook and skype, we have not seen each other in nine years.  It has gone by fast but I wonder if there will be a time when I get to see her again.  I really miss her and think about her from time to time.
Another friend who was very close to me in high school, who was from Japan.  It is a long confusing reasoning of why this is but in a nutshell she had to choose between living in the United States without her parents or living back in Japan.  She made so many friends and was close to her family both in the US and Japan that it was hard.  Also her grades were in consideration and she had to get a certain grade.  I remember she cried whenever we discussed it.  I knew she had a lot going on inside but as well as I.

tennis

I can't wait for spring!  Spring and fall are my fravorite seasons.  The reason this is is because in the summer I faint a lot due to the heat and also in general I hate the heat when it is above eighty.  Winter, I just absoultly hate the cold, driving on snow and ice is just not my cup of tea.
The number one reason why I cannot wait for spring besides the warmth is because I get to go outside and play tennis (except the days it rains).  I always get exceited because I know there is ususally about seven months that I could go out and play before winter hits.  I played on the tennis team in high school and I love it.  My friends and I would crank up the volume of the stereo and play usually at night when it is not too hot for hours.  We would just goof around be competitive at times.  It is a great way of being sociable and excercising with each other.

Hospital

I have no idea what to write about so I will just talk about work.  Yesterday was my seventh month of working there.  This is my first job so when I first started, I could not believe how much information there was to know and had to accomplish in nine hours a day.  I remember I just wanted to quit because I became so frustrated and could not do the tasks accurately.  I work in the dietary section where I do multiple things like setting up trays for the patients and taking the food up, manily washing my dishes and putting the dishes away.  I have notice lately that work and I are at the period of having a love/hate relationship.  Some days are beter than others.  For the most part I like everyone there except there is so much drama everyday and word gets out so quick.  All I have to say is I am glad I have a job because some people are having trouble finding jobs.

Technology

Cell phones have been very useful.  It is small, you can carry it around everywhere, very handy and can do many things such as having internet, texting, music, storing all your contacts, keeping notes, calender, alarm clock etc. compared to a regular phone.  I take my cell phone everywhere ever since I got one.

Internet has also been another big thing for technology.  I love it! I can not even count how many times I get on facebook a day.  It is such a neat way to chat with people.  I remember before facebook, I use to use msn messenger, xanga and myspace.  Also that I sometimes use is skype and twitter which I know is another that is useful of talking and making your own page.  Doing homework I use all the time using the internet like researching something or even this blog thing that we are doing for class.
Also some other technology things that I love messing around with  is iphones, ipods, kindle and ipads.

I am not sure if I could without technology.  They are always comming out with something new.  Who knows what will be the next big "thing".  I can not imagine what kind of technology will be in this world in fifty years.  It bet though, it will be amazing!

19th Birthday

I just turned nineteen last saturday (according to my birth cirtificate).  My mom said they made up a close date that they thought I was born.  A lot of what they put on the documents had so many different made up stuff that know one really knows what is true.  Anyhow so I had an amazing time with my friends and family.  My family celebrated my birthday.  We had the usual routine of sitting around the table by singing "happy birthday", opening presents and then eating cake.  Later that day I drove down with a friend to go meet other friends at my friend's house at college.  We were suppose to go to a hockey game but they got sold out.  I was very disappointed but we went to Applebees.  I absolutely love their food!  The hot waiter we had and six other waiters came around my table with a cake and a lit candle, sang "happy birthday" to me.  The side of the restaurant had all eyes on me when this was going on.  I hate that feeling when everyone is staring at you especially seven hot waiters.  After that filling meal and dessert we went back to my friends house to party.   By the time three ocolock came around, I think everyone was out by then.  Once everyone was up the next day (which was almost noon), we just pretty much felt lazy and was talking.  It was sad that we had to go but overall it was fun day.  I am glad that I spent my last teen birthday that way.

The Dead Grandmother/Exam Syndrome

In the essay, "The Dead Grandmother/Exam Syndrome", Mike Adam talks about how it affects college students taking exams around the same time their grandmothers past away and how he gives three ideas to come about this problem.  He explains throughout the essay his reasonings to his three main ideas.  He even gives fantastic charts to make it more realistically.  For myself, I do not not really agree with having grandmothers knowing if I have an exam or something huge for school so I do not think they would worry at all maybe compared to other people who talk to their grandmothers a lot about school and other things.  Even though grandmothers can past away around exam time, I do not believe, his ideas are true.  I though the whole essay was very sarcastic.  Well if that is the case, heck I would want my grandmother to pass away if  I would not have to take any exams.  Just kidding!  Well, she is already dead anyways.
